The title for "Hulm" as mentioned in a previous post, came to us because we wanted just one word in another language that would weigh heavily in terms of our idea and narrative - one that would just "fit" and we'd know it. So once we came across "Hulm" we loved the sound of it, but the image of it appearing as it's being written on our screen stuck in my head. With that, I asked my resident artist contact (my dear mother) to be kind enough to make it for me. Bless the Sketchbook app on her tablet for allowing a screen recording of the process of her trying to create the strokes for a perfect title card.

She asked me what the vision was, and I can't describe how perfect our title is in terms of appearance too - it is spelt with "H", "L" and "M" in Arabic/Persian scripture and in calligraphy could even be written in a single stroke. I told my mother I wanted the "L" to extend upwards and the "M" to extend downwards, both to the top and bottom edges of the frame. She immediately understood what I was going for and gave it a shot, with me standing right next to her, mesmerized by the art she was creating.

I remember absolutely loving the last stroke she made right at the end of the recoding onto the "H" - it looked almost like a teardrop, so I felt that everything about it was perfect. Simple and elegant, but powerful. And with that, we had our final title card, complete.
