Beyond the Shot

My AS Media blog on the artistry of cinema

Welcome to Beyond the Shot, a personal blog where I analyze different films and techniques used in cinema. Join me on my journey to discover the world of film and media and explore what makes it so magnificent. From cinematography to sound design, I've got it covered. So sit back, grab some popcorn, and let's dive in!

About Me

When I was told I was to write an introduction to myself for my blog, I found it to be a bigger task than the posts themselves. My name is Rija, I study at Lahore Grammar School OPF Senior Girls, and coming into A1 has been absolutely nerve-wracking. I don't know what to expect, but I have to admit, it definitely is exciting knowing I'm in a new stage of life now. But trying to describe who I am in a few paragraphs is challenging, because O'Level CAIEs basically just gave me an identity crisis. I'm still figuring out what I want to do and where I want to be in this next chapter, but I have hopes and a feeling that I'll find my passions sooner or later. It's just a matter of exploring.

I consider myself to be a film lover, so media studies was a subject I was very much interested in from the beginning. I've been around cameras my whole life so I've always been comfortable with the notion of 'media'. But, wow, studying the subject really has changed my outlook on things. It's hilarious how I've been humbled - I'm really NOT an experienced movie lover since I haven't seen a lot of the classics, so I'm a simpleton I guess - an aspiring knowledgable cinephile. It's so cool to see so much media in so many different ways and I think I've changed as a viewer forever in the limited time I've had sitting in Sir Zia's classes. That's why I'm most excited to continue with the subject, and I can't wait to see how my viewpoints change as I go into A2!!
